Applications For 2025 Have Closed
A real estate tax credit is available for volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel who own real estate property in Cumberland County. This annual tax credit for our volunteer first responders was enacted through Ordinance Number 2022-2 by the Cumberland County Commissioners.
How Much Is The Tax Credit?
The amount of Cumberland County Real Estate Tax paid by the volunteer, up to $250. (Excluding Library Tax)
Who Is Eligible?
- You must be an active volunteer firefighter or EMS volunteer.
- An active volunteer who was injured during a response to an emergency call, and can no longer serve as an active volunteer because of the injury, is eligible for a tax credit for the succeeding 5 years.
- A volunteer must occupy and pay property taxes as the property owner, either alone or jointly.
How Do I Apply?
Volunteers:
- Must submit a completed and signed Cumberland County tax credit application and a copy of their official tax receipt.
- Bank statements and canceled checks will not be accepted to apply for the tax credit.
- All completed documentation must be received by Nov. 15, 2025.
Fire Company or EMS Chief/Manager:
- Must submit a certification form that is a complete and accurate list of all volunteers who have met the organization’s requirements and have been in good standing for at least six months between Jan. 1 and Nov. 30.
- All completed documentation must be received by Dec. 15, 2025.
The items above must be mailed or hand delivered to the Cumberland County Commissioners Office, 1 Courthouse square, Suite 200, Carlisle, PA 17013.
What Happens After Applying?
The Cumberland County Commissioners Office will review and verify the certification, real estate receipt, and completed application. After verifying all information, a check payable to the volunteer in the amount of real estate tax paid up to $250 will be issued to the applicant.
