As an emergency agency located within Cumberland County, the Cumberland County Animal Response Team (commonly referred to as CART) is available and here to assist your department should the need arise. We are one of Cumberland County's specialty teams, operating under the organization of the Pennsylvania State Animal Response Team (PSART).
PASART/CCART is based on the principals of the Incident Command System developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). It involves a coordinated effort of government, corporate, and animal organizations. More information can be found on the PASART Website.
Our team is made up of volunteers and local professionals who will respond to calls when dispatched by the Cumberland County 911 Center. There may be times when your department/organization is called to a scene involving animals. We can assist with situations such as a recumbent animal (animal down and unable to get up), animal capture (an animal escaped its fencing or enclosure), emergency sheltering during natural disasters, auto accidents involving farm or domestic animals, house fire involving multiple animals, etc. We house our equipment in the Carlisle area, so our response times may vary.
Our team meets every other month throughout the year. Please feel free to contact us if you or someone you know is interested in coming to a meeting and/or joining our team!
