Every Cumberland County DUI defendant must obtain an alcohol evaluation from a licensed drug and alcohol treatment agency of his or her choice. Defendants must also obtain a CRN evaluation through the Cumberland-Perry Drug & Alcohol Commission. The cost of the CRN is $60 and must be paid by cash or money order at the time of the scheduled evaluation.
If the alcohol evaluation results indicate the defendant does not need further alcohol counseling, the providing agency must supply written notification to the probation office. The notice should state that the defendant completed the required alcohol evaluation and no further counseling is recommended.
If the alcohol evaluation results in a recommendation for further inpatient treatment, individual or group counseling, or other follow-up services, the defendant must enter into the recommended treatment. Upon successful discharge or completion of treatment, the providing agency must supply written notification to the probation office. The notice should state that the defendant was successfully discharged or completed the additional treatment or counseling recommendations.
Defendants are responsible to pay for alcohol evaluations and any recommended follow-up services. Personal health insurance may offer assistance in covering some of these expenses. Most alcohol service agencies will not provide evaluation results or discharge reports until they have been paid for their services.
Cumberland County first- and second-DUI defendants must attend mandatory DUI school. Defendants may sign up for a class with a location and times that best fits his or her schedule. If a defendant is not a resident of Cumberland County, they can contact the DUI coordinator to request to complete DUI school in the defendant's county of residence.
