The Aerosol Avengers from Shippensburg Area Senior High School took first place at the Cumberland County Conservation Districts 40th Annual Envirothon, a scholastic competition that challenges high school students to learn about the natural environment. The Aerosol Avengers from Shippensburg High School took the top prize and will represent Cumberland County at the 2025 Pennsylvania Envirothon at Windber Recreational Park in Windber, on May 21.
Coming in second place was the Green Guardians from Cumberland Valley High School and third place went to the Awesome Omnivores from Big Spring High School.
Competing were 80 students representing Big Spring, Carlisle, Cumberland Valley, East Pennsboro, and Shippensburg High Schools. Partner agencies help administer the tests and provide students with an opportunity to interact and ask questions with professionals in their fields of expertise through in-class and hands on, outdoor curriculums that include Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Soil & Land Use, Wildlife, and Current Environmental Issues.
Partners include the PA Game Commission, PA Fish and Boat Commission, PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Natural Resource Conservation Service, and the Cumberland County Conservation District staff. Each student and advisor received an Envirothon t-shirt sponsored by Adams Electric Cooperative. The event was hosted at Pine Grove Furnace State Park.
