Mass Casualty Incident Response Team (MCIRT)

The team was organized in 1987 based on the reasonable assumption that due to the county profile, an incident could generate casualties exceeding the capabilities of the local emergency services and medical treatment facilities.

The overall objective of creating such a team was to provide to an incident commander the necessary technical assistance and guidance to control the incident.  Training highly motivated public service personnel in this specialized response provides this much needed technical support.

The MCIRT does not take command of an incident, its sole purpose is to provide assistance to the personnel and the incident commander for more efficient and rapid closure of an emergency.

Training includes, but is not limited to:
  • ICS (NIMS), counter-terrorism
  • Rehab
  • EMS operations
  • Triage & treatment operations
  • Communications
  • Transportation
  • Utilization of equipment & resources
  • Defusing & debriefing
  • Incident reporting
  • Emergency management
  • Hazardous materials – technician level
