Black Fly Program Video

Field sampling has shown the black fly species Simulium jenningsi present in the Conodoguinet and Yellow Breeches Creeks, and the Susquehanna River areas of Cumberland County.

This species is known to cause particular intolerable nuisance to residents in their outdoor activities.

Cumberland County participates in the PA DEP Blackfly program by committing funds for operations of the program. This program is conducted and managed by PA DEP, with State funding by the State Legislature.

Black Fly suppression program has the potential to positively impact the outdoor experience of 81% of Cumberland County residents by reducing the populations of these biting insects.
